My Writing Process

I have always been fascinated by ocean life. In 2011, I showed a picture book about sea animals to an editor at National Geographic. She liked my writing and recommended me to another editor who asked me to write OCEAN COUNTING.
I had a wonderful time researching and writing OCEAN COUNTING. The process differed from my other picture books. I gazed at breathtaking undersea photographs taken by award-winning photojournalist Brian Skerry. I wrote colorful text to go along with the pictures. I read about each animal and spoke with experts. Each page in the book provides a counting opportunity (the book focuses on 1-10), an interesting Did You Know? fact, and other information.
