Author Visits

SCHOOL VISITS:

Fee:
$1,200 a day for up to three presentations.
$800 for a half-day with two presentations.
(Expenses are added for more than a 50-mile drive).
$250 for a virtual visit/presentation. Discount for 2nd/3rd on same day.

Content:
I specialize in presenting to K-2. My educational and entertaining PowerPoint presentations involve students as I explain my writing process and how a picture book is created.

Objectives:
Students will learn that:

  • Creation of a book involves many people and steps.
  • We all have story ideas inside us.
  • Good writers look at every word.
  • Revision is fun!
  • Authors (and kids) can set goals and work hard.
  • Good writing includes fiction and nonfiction forms.

Autographing:
Schools are encouraged to offer my books for sale. I will autograph on day of visit.

Content:
Book-based entertaining and educational library presentations include seasonal and holiday offerings such as:

  • The Prehistoric Games (Dinosaur Olympics!)
  • Halloween Not-So-Scary Happenings
  • Snowzilla is Coming to Town!
  • Rain Forest Adventure
  • Valentine’s Day/Mother’s Day Love
  • Father’s Day Fun
  • Ocean Counting/Fishing for Nonfiction

Each program includes story time with audience participation, age-appropriate educational components (such as picture book process, how author turns ideas into stories, difference between fiction and nonfiction), and related craft/activity/song/dance (one or more).
