I specialize in presenting to K-2. My educational and entertaining PowerPoint presentations involve students as I explain my writing process and how a picture book is created.

Students will learn that:

  • Creation of a book involves many people and steps.
  • We all have story ideas inside us.
  • Good writers look at every word.
  • Revision is fun!
  • Authors (and kids) can set goals and work hard.
  • Good writing includes fiction and nonfiction forms.

Links provided to author’s CCSS curriculum guides and related activities.

Schools are encouraged to offer my books for sale. I will autograph on day of visit.

We really enjoyed your visit last night! One parent sent me a picture of the animal color wheel her son did and it had many of the animals you talked about from your Rainforest Colors book. He loved your presentation for sure! We will definitely keep you in mind for future school visits.

The teachers have already asked for your return to our school…! We have a visit every year for K-2, so we'd have to wait until this year’s Kindergartners are in 3rd grade to have you back. They really did enjoy your visit!

Janet Lawler visited our school recently for our “Starry Story Night” event and captivated our young audience garbed in their cozy pajamas. …everyone left the school with good things to say about the presentation.

It was such a pleasure having you visit our school. The response has been wonderful. The staff was very impressed how you geared the program to what they are practicing in writer’s workshop. They enjoyed it immensely.

Janet Lawler has visited our school several times for our annual “Young Authors/Readers Conference.” She has a gift for speaking to children and capturing their imaginations. Our teachers thoroughly enjoy her presentations and report that the students are excited about writing when they return to the classroom.
